I have tried many subscription services…

I have tried many subscription services (especially during the pandemic) and this one is the absolute worst. Absolutely atrocious customer service! They give one notification before they ship your next box and you better hope that it does not slip your mind. The minute they charge your card, you are out of luck. They will not stop the order, refund you or allow for returns. So there you are, stuck with the same mediocre products that cost 150 dollars. Way too expensive and they care nothing about keeping you as a customer. They are thieves. Take my advice and use a superior subscription service that cares about their customers. A similar situation happened with Hello Fresh (we have a 1 year old and sometimes life gets hectic and things slip through). Hello Fresh immediately canceled the order, refunded me and delayed my subscription until a further date so this didn't happen again. With Butcher Box they tell you there is nothing they can do and take your hard earned money. I wish I could give them 0 stars.

Don’t waste your money!

I have subscribed to Butcherbox for close to 4 years. I recently canceled my subscription for good. I have had issues with the company since 6 months into the subscription l. First, it was shipping issues. They did not insulate enough or put enough ice for a trip from the east coast to Texas, especially in the summer. A year in, they had a new plant in Oklahoma but did not pack the meat tightly enough and it arrived with damaged packages. Next, the quality has decreased substantially. In the beginning the packaged pounds were as advertised when ordered. Also, the meat was lean and tasty in the beginning. Now, the last pork roast that I paid extra for was 2/3 fat. I feel like quality control and customer service is severely lacking. As a result, no more Butcherbox for me!

Slimy Customer Service

This review is not about their meat. I actually really like the product. There is one thing I would change about it but it's very minor (I won't go into detail here). However, their customer service is awful. Specifically, how they handle skipping a month with of their subscription. It feels a lot like they’re going to do everything they can to get you that box unless you are really, really watching, which feels very underhanded and slimy. This is how their system works. They send you an email when they are "processing" your order. This gives you time to cancel if you need to. But after they "invoice" you the shipment can't be cancelled. So, you better hit that in between time between the “processing” email and the “invoice” email because they will not stop the process after invoicing, no matter how much you ask. I've had this happen a few times and just dealt with it. Sure, the time between the "processing" and "invoicing" is so short that sometimes I can't catch it to skip my subscription for the month (I don't need it every month) but I just ate it and chalked it up to “it is what it is”. However, each time they kept doing it and I reached out to support only to hear the same copied and pasted line over and over, my patience kept getting thinner with them. This last time put me over the edge. They sent me the “processing” email at 11am on a Sunday. I don’t check my email on Sundays or weekends, like a lot of people. But come Monday morning, no problem. I’ll see the email and just login and cancel. And I better do it right then because no telling when they’ll send the “invoice” email and then it’s too late. When did the “invoice” email come? It came at 1:30am Monday morning! Literally 14 hours after the “processing” email. So much for the time to cancel. I talked to support and they gave me the same old tired line about how they can’t do anything about it. I told them that they could either stop the box, refund me or they could lose me as a member. Their reply email addressed none of that and just repeated the tired of line of not being able to do anything. So, they lost me as a member. I cancelled. Honestly, I’m incredibly surprised this company would die on this molehill and be willing to lose a long-time member who would have continued to use their product. It doesn’t even make business sense. Everyone knows the age-old adage that it is 10x more expensive to get a new customer than it is to keep an existing one. And they would rather die on a hill over $149 than make more money from that customer later on. I mean, c’mon. If you want some other things to consider, here you go: Another issue is they don’t give you an option to pause your subscription like a lot of major food services do like Hellofresh, etc. They only give you the option to delay your order (by sending it to you a few weeks later) or cancelling your membership. This combined with how short they make the window to cancel just makes it feel like they want to take your money whether you need the box or not. Also, their marketing is incredibly misleading. They advertise “$1 bacon for life” and other such things and of course, they’re not what you think they are. Lots of companies do something similar. But rarely does a company be this misleading in their advertising. Probably some sort of FCC issue honestly. Consider whether this is the type of business you want to support with your money because if they're slimy in their customer service & marketing, what other parts of their business are seeing corners cut? Before you buy, consider these things. And be sure to have a trigger finger for your box if you want to skip one. I’d even suggest having an automatic calendar notification set to fire to remind you to check. And if you’re thinking, “isn’t that a little much for a meat subscription service, or any service really?” I’d agree. And that’s what I cancelled. P.S. if you’re reading this and in my position, just call your credit card company and get a disputed charge and send the meat back.

Ordered based on a special "never before done" deal of $100 off over five months on the base price of $149. Two weeks later I received an email indicating they were raising their prices by $10. This immediately reduces discount benefit I signed up for. Upon contacting them, they will not honor the price of the subscription I signed up for - this is false advertising and I reported them to the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Terrible beef.

I received the products that I ordered. I cooked the rib eyes using my usual reverse sear method to an internal temp of 130 degrees. The meat looked medium rare but was tough and has a livery off taste. I have cooked grass fed beef before and know that because it is leaner one has to be careful about overcooking it. This was the worst grass fed beef that I have ever had. I am cancelling my subscription.

Bad customer service

Bad customer service. I signed when they had a promotion called “free bacon for life”. I got my box with all items I asked for + the bacon + other free items. When they charged my second box they didn’t include the bacon, I contacted them and they said I didn’t got that promotion because I got other free items (where did the bacon come from?). I tried to cancel the box and they said they couldn’t do it because it was already processed. This is a classical example of click and bait, it’s time to come back to a local butcher.

Butcher box is set up to make and take your money, plain and simple. I tried to cancel , the site was so cumbersome to do it. I deleted my card and they looked it up from the first order and charged it, so deleting your information does not work, they don’t care. They sent an order I didn’t even ask for or want, tried to send back they wouldn’t take it, this is not a good service to have, the prices are 20% or higher than the store bought, for the same items, after all this they refuse to refund my money. There customer service is only there for their company not you or your issues.This is truly a bad service, I recommend running in the opposite direction from these guys.

Butcher Box is a scam, 100%. I purchased my first box with the special offer they advertised on Instagram (2x ribeyes & 2x lobster tails with your first box). I received my box and the lobster tails were missing. No big deal, I contacted customer service and let them know. Customer service rep Irene informed me that they've added the missing lobster tails to my second box. I asked if they could send it individually since my second box wasn't scheduled until November (it's July). She said no because their "policy is to only ship 4+ items due to the size of their boxes and the risk of thawing due to unused space". No joke - this is what this woman said to me. Never heard of a smaller box or what??? More insulation maybe??? The only way for me to receive my missing items is to PURCHASE ANOTHER BOX. So I just have to trust that you won't screw up my second order? What if the second box is missing NY strips this time? You're saying I have order a THIRD box to get the items I'm missing? Talk about false advertising - I'll never be seeing those lobster tails, that's for sure, and I definitely won't be ordering anymore boxes. I filed a complaint on BBB and posted my experience on all my social media accounts. These people shouldn't be able to get away with ripping people off. It's unbelievable.

Unacceptable customer service policies- do not order from ButcherBox

I placed my first order with Butcher Box and received the shipment saturday afternoon. The outside of the box was warm to the touch and all the dry ice inside had evaporated. The items packed on top (salmon) had started to thaw. The shipment was also missing 4 items. Immediately contacted the company and explained what had happened. They offered to include the items in the next order in a month. When I explained that before I placed another order I wanted to make sure they could actually get a box here without it thawing and asked that they ship the items that had thawed and the items that were missing before the next order. They said no. They said they have a policy that they will NOT ship less than a full order. So, to get the items I had already paid for I was going to have to spend another $150 and hope they got it right the second time. This is not like a long standing customer relationship where they have built up goodwill and I trust them yet. They screwed up my very first order and are now pushing me to place me second order to correct their error. No offer of a refund or any other accommodation was made either. Either you soend more money with them or you are just out. Unacceptable business practices. I wonder if their lawyers have heard of fraudulent inducement? Bottom line - do not order from this company. They will not correct their own mistakes and you will be left paying the price.

Poor quality product, worse customer service

We've been iffy on the quality of the product for awhile now. It's relatively expensive for poor quality meat. To make it worse, they have abysmal customer service. It is difficult to contact them and then once you do, they are supremely unhelpful in changing anything regarding the order. I get that they ship fast, but that does no good if it's going to sit on my porch rotting. The warning emails went to my spam folder and I only saw the confirmation. I called immediately, but that was already too late and their staff refused to help or refund product that will be ruined. Chat and phone folks were unhelpful and indignant, and it's impossible to speak with a supervisor. Absolutely stay away.

Just Meh - Not Worth The Price

The steaks are fantastic but I couldn't really tell a difference in store bought chicken breast and BB's. The grossest item by far is their premade beef patties. Flat disgusting. Each patty had these nasty hard (almost bone like chunks) in it. After my second run in with this, I threw my dinner out I was so grossed out. I also wanted to treat myself to their lobster meat. It arrived raw. Smelled funny once thawed and cooked terrible. Tiny portion for $16. No thanks. I'll just stick with quality meats at the store. Also had delivery issues the first time (missed 4 steaks) but they did correct on the second order. Ok quality but not worth the price.

This has to be one of the worst…

This has to be one of the worst companies yet. Completely mismanaged and incompetently run! No matter what was in my cart and my cousins cart as well..two separate accounts: it kept showing up as ground beef and burgers which is what they shipped yet we didn't order these things. They re sent both our shipments and the seals were broken and two of the steaks were bad as well as the scallops. Then when I called to complain they told me it could take 24hours to speak to a supervisor. Then just for kix I asked what was in our carts for next month's order..and again it was ground beef and burgers. I was told I could get a credit for the bad meat. I then promptly cancelled both our accounts! Absurd treatment of customers and mishandled meat! Lowest quality!

Still waiting on my 2nd package. No problems with the 1st. Tracking says 2nd was delivered and handed to me. Nope. I was home at the time tracking says it was delivered. They use "Lasership" which has a terrible track record. No idea where the package went....maybe home with the delivery person. Customer service says I may have to wait 72 hours for them to respond. It's a box full of meat. IF they can locate it, it will be mush.

White line disease

The first chicken breast out of the package had white line disease. This is a disease caused by hormone additives and too rapid growth in poultry industrial production. It is precisely what Butcher Box claims their suppliers do not do. This low quality chicken is available at any supermarket for 1/4 the cost of BB. In all fairness, the BB chicken had minor white line. In no way is it as bad as I've seen at big box stores and supermarkets. After reviewing BB's explanation of their partners' efforts to provide humane treatment of their birds, including pasture access, I am changing my rating from 1 to 4 stars. At least they are trying which is more than I can say about the mega-chicken producers. I will personally inspect the chicken breasts from now on to ensure I am getting the product I expect.

Terrible service - avoid

I can’t evaluate the product- I ordered a week before Christmas for gift delivery as promoted on their website. Never got any updates on the status and presumed it arrived. Unfortunately, my father never received. Contacted customer service and they said my order was “billed” on the 24th and then went through processing… what a bunch of horse sh*. I called them and they assured me that they would cancel it. The order was not canceled. ButcherBox has protein, primarily beef, chicken, pork, and fish delivered. BBox sends numerous emails and the user makes choices regarding their box - until BBox makes the decision. For example, I received an email regarding Wings for Life - no amount or cost until one selects the button. As I noticed the amount to be 3lbs (more than I could eat) and the cost of $55 (more $ than I wanted to pay). The next day (12 hours later) my bank showed that I had been charged for the Wings for Life. I tried the chat option #1 try was disconnected 2nd try "nothing we can do." Then called Customer Service - again "Nothing can be done." I requested to get a mgt call because I never ordered Wings for Life. No response. I thought to dispute charges ... and was told that would negate all contractual agreements with BBox. Because I had ordered one lb of wings previously ... the box came with 7lbs of wingsdoing?? Update: 3.5 weeks later ... I heard from a manager via email - I would be getting a full refund. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Beef is represented as 100% grass fed and finished. Chicken is represented as organic. Pork is natural. Steaks are thin and expensive - especially filets and tenderloins. Convenient when the order is correct. Just do NOT expect customer service ...

The worst red meat I've ever tasted we had the filet mignons and then we ate four days later the ribeyes they were both so full of gristle you would swear that we were eating a dead deer. We still have more meat and chicken to eat in the box sitting in the freezer and I'm definitely concerned because the quality was so poor I have never in my life tasted meat red meat especially they tasted so gracely so rough it was Lily like I said just utter garbage run do not believe any of these people telling you how wonderful the meat is in this after two of the better cuts of meat theoretically. The giveaways when you look at their website you never see the word select choice or prime they just keep saying they have such premium meat there's no such word in grading meat as called premium it's very simple it's either select choice or prime and I would guess most of this is below select it is absolutely a waste of money.

I used to LOVE butcher box

I used to LOVE butcher box! Never had a problem until recently. Since the summer we had been receiving just ok cuts of meat. Packages labeled as ribeye when they clearly were not ribeyes and when weighed, were not quite 10 oz. Then, I ordered extra sirloins and ribeyes during their most recent monthly sale. Both packages of ribeye that were open was rotten, spoiled meat. The smell was horrendous and had to be put in the outside garbage because of the stench. So disheartening and a complete waste of money. Customer service was GREAT at resolving the issue, but I still have plenty cuts of meat I haven't defrosted yet and am concerned they'll be bad as well. Because of this, I decided to cancel my subscription. They use to be sooo good. Never had an issue, but lately they're been declining and in my opinion, cutting corners. When the cost rises, the quality shouldn't decline.
