I first heard about the Nugget couch a few months ago in my local online parenting group. I wasn't sure what it was, but based on the overwhelming number of Nugget-related posts, it was clear that it was something a lot of parents desired for their kids—and that many more already had.
I was intrigued, so I started browsing through the postings and photographs of what people were doing with their Nuggets, and I gradually became convinced that my kids, too, needed one. I was curious as the hype of Nugget couch was reaching new heights and if it was truly worth the money.
What is Nugget?
To be more specific, a Nugget is a couch, or at least that's what it was designed to be. The Nugget Company, masterminds behind the Nugget couch, proudly proclaims on its website, "Turns out that the world's best kids' toy is actually a couch." Many people would agree, especially given the cult following that surrounds the Nugget. The components can be piled on top of each other to create a highly modern version of the nugget play couch, made of four pieces of foam that include one hard foundation cushion, one soft top cushion, and two triangle pillows.
Despite the point that it is technically a couch, the Nugget has grown into a set of playground building bricks. Parents adore it because it encourages youngsters to use their imagination and creativity in order to learn while also giving an outlet for their children's boundless energy.
Because the Nugget's design is so versatile, it may be utilized as the nugget play couch for older kids and even adults when it's not being used as an indoor playground.
Nuggets are composed of high-quality, low-VOC CertiPur certified foam and covered in machine-washable microsuede, making them incredibly durable.

I Ordered My Nugget
At first, I couldn't see why anyone would want a Nugget. A $229 couch that looks like it belongs in a dorm room? I had no idea what you were talking about. But the more I tried to figure out what all the fuss was about with the Nugget couch, the more I imagined how much fun my own kids would have with it. And before anything, I was showing my husband the Nugget website and persuading him that we, too, required one.
Back in February, when I went to get my Nugget, their website indicated that all Nuggets were back-ordered but would arrive in two months. And, despite the fact that it seemed like an eternity, I was happy that I wouldn't have to enter a Nugget lottery system in order to win the chance to buy a Nugget during a "drop," as most buyers did over the Christmas season.
When I placed my order, I clearly didn't read the website carefully enough because, despite the fact that it says right on their website that you will be charged as soon as you place your order, I was caught off guard when I was charged right away rather than when my Nugget arrived; this was entirely my fault, but it's worth mentioning for other distracted parents like me.
However, I became concerned when, shortly after completing my transaction, I had a customer service query and discovered that Nugget does not offer an easy way to reach them. "We're still a small staff," the Nugget website says, "therefore to serve as many customers as comprehensively as possible, we don't take phone calls." It then directs you to contact them via email.
It wasn't a big thing, but I wasn't delighted when I sent my email and got an auto-response saying I'd hear back from someone on the Nuggets' team in two weeks. That seems like quite a long period to me for a firm that just took $229 from me. What if I ordered the wrong color by mistake? Or did I need to cancel my order due to a financial emergency that arose during the lengthy shipment process?
All of this disturbed me, and based on what I saw on their Facebook page, Nugget also doesn't react to messages or comments there and has a similar scenario on Instagram. That alerted me severely, but I didn't have much of a choice than to wait for their response—and hope that my Nugget arrived safely.
Delivery of the Nugget
Thankfully, my Nugget arrived two months later in a massive orange box, just as promised. My Nugget is required to be opened right away upon delivery, as directed by my auto-generated Nugget shipment email because they don't appreciate being squashed into their shipping boxes.
So I pulled open that baby, and guess what? It was a couch, to be precise in a way. It was just a bunch of colorful foam pieces in my chosen "koala" color, and I was sure I'd fallen victim to one of those fads that you later look back on and chuckle at the stupidity of.
My worries were swiftly dispelled when, a short time later, my toddler discovered the Nugget pieces on the floor and began moving them around without prompting until he had unwittingly built himself a slide. The parts were then turned into a jumping platform, and my 9-year-old quickly gathered some bedsheets to turn the Nugget into a fort.
When my kids went to sleep and I tried to move the Nugget out of the middle of my living room, I ended up lying on it and watching a movie. Before I knew it, someone in our household was using the Nugget almost all of the time. Perhaps the Nuggeteers, as they are known, are onto something.
What's So Fascinating About the Nugget?
The Nugget and I have a tumultuous relationship. My kids adore it, and I'd be dishonest if I didn't admit that I already wish I'd ordered two. Do you know how many things two Nuggets can accomplish? Many, I mean many, how many you want to have, just get 'em
I've loved seeing my kids' inventiveness and delight in being able to make something and then play with it. Even though my first and third children are 10 years apart in age, I find all three of my children playing together when the Nugget is there.
Thanks to the connected carry handle on the two larger cushions, it's also lightweight and easy to move from room to room. So far, the Nugget has lived up to its boasts of being both sturdy and easy to clean. Because of the microsuede fabric, it's endured a lot of abuse from my busy family and hasn't shown any indications of wear or even use, and little markings have been incredibly easy to wash away.
Negative Points of Nuggets
My affection for the Nugget is hampered by the fact that I was never able to contact anyone from the Nugget firm. I've been waiting for a response from the Nugget company for more than two months after sending my email to customer support. I'm concerned that if I have a problem with their product, I'll be out $229.
I can easily state that my Nugget purchase was a success, and I would buy another one in the future. But I say that knowing full well that, while I had no problems this time, if I had a problem with my future order, I might have a different opinion based simply on my customer service experience. Keep this piece of advice while making a decision to purchase Nugget couches.
Does Nugget Worth the Money?
Absolutely. After a few weeks, my child has consistently chosen the Nugget as the first toy to play within the morning. It's his vehicle ramp, obstacle course, and reading location, and when he's not using it, he's sobbing because our 9-year-old is creating yet another fort to hang out in, or my 12-year-old is lying on it to watch TV.
We used the triangle pillows to hold up the rectangular pieces of the chairs for our family movie night last night. I'm currently writing this on one of the rectangular parts, with the triangle pieces under both my head and legs (I'll let you in on a little secret, it's incredible).
